Letterpress Cards with Hebrew Wood Type

  • Minnesota Center for Book Arts 1011 South Washington Avenue #100 Minneapolis, MN, 55415 United States (map)

Thursday, August 14; 6–9pm CT

Mazel Tov (Congratulations)! Shalom (Peace)! Ahavah (Love)! Experience letterpress printing while making cards with MCBA's new collection of Hebrew wood type.

This in-person workshop is designed for those new to letterpress printing with a desire to build skills and community through playful experimentation with Jewish-themed designs! Text and simple backgrounds will be pre-designed to maximize printing time and allow for the basic concepts of printing to be introduced. We’ll print four designs, each with two layers. Participants will have some creative input with ink colors. Participants can choose from a selection of cards at the end of the workshop and all will come away with twelve cards and envelopes.

This workshop introduces participants to some technical skills required for letterpress printing, but participation in Letterpress 1: Printing Basics, Letterpress 2: Setting Type, and Letterpress 3: Two-Color Prints is needed in order to attend Letterpress Labs to print independently in MCBA’s studios.

Level: Beginner. This workshop is open to new and experienced letterpress printers.
Certificate: 3 hours, Category A or D

Accessibility note: This workshop takes place in MCBA’s lower level studios. Open Book’s elevator is temporarily unavailable July–August 2025 while the entire elevator system is replaced. We apologize for the inconvenience and look forward to the improved access, safety, and reliability a new elevator will provide.

Pricing

For individuals to whom these scholarships do not apply, register at the Adult rate and, if you are able, consider making a donation when registering to support MCBA’s efforts to make scholarships available.

Please note: Registration closes 8/11 at midnight (CT).
