Saturday, July 19; 12–4pm and Sunday, July 20; 11:30am–2:30pm CT
Join Workshop for Independent Publishing (WIP) founders, Aiden Bettine and India Johnson, for an in-person chapbook publishing workshop at WIP (Saturday 7/19) and MCBA (Sunday 7/20). Prepare your text in advance and print 25 copies of your chapbook in this weekend workshop.
Before the workshop, format 16 pages of prose or poetry in Google Docs or your preferred word processor using templates and video tutorials provided. On Saturday at WIP, learn techniques for combining your text with collage imagery, then print 25 copies of your chapbook. On Sunday, assemble and bind your chapbooks in MBCA's bindery. One-section binding options (using staples or thread) will be demonstrated and participants can choose which is the best fit for their chapbook.
All materials are provided, but feel free to bring any personal drawing tools or collage material you wish to use. Bring your personal laptop to WIP on Saturday to download free booklet layout software or use WIP's computer.

MCBA offers two scholarship types for workshops—Financial Hardship Scholarships and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) Scholarships—to honor equity and increase access and artistic opportunities for those who have historically been underrepresented in the book arts. For individuals to whom these scholarships do not apply, register at the Adult rate and, if you are able, consider making a donation when registering to support MCBA’s efforts to make scholarships available.
