“entangled is a two layer, soft ground etching on mulberry paper. The images were created from impressing a tangle of thread and the underside of a hand-sewn quilt onto two soft ground coated copper plates. When the textile materials are removed, they pick up soft ground from the plate, leaving areas of exposed copper that are then etched and printed in succession, capturing the texture of the fabric and thread in fine detail. entangled explores the complicated undersides of familial relationships and the tangles of unacknowledged emotions we hold between us.” - Hannah Rae

Hannah Rae (they/them) is a multidisciplinary artist living in Duluth, MN, working in paper making, printmaking and fiber arts. Hannah’s work discusses themes of complicated family relationships, the difficult concept of home, and their deepening connection with the natural environment. They use intricate and laborious processes of print, paper, and fiber to unravel and understand their experiences, seeking to weave them back together into something that can be called home. Outside of their art practice, Hannah enjoys mending clothing, spending time outdoors, and hanging out with their blind cat.
