Altered Book Collage

Wednesdays: July 9, 16, 23, 30; 7–9pm CT

In this virtual workshop, explore many ways of altering the book—through cutting, gluing, folding, building, and excavating stories.

Interested in collage but need a way to contain your ideas? Looking for inspiration and a place to start? Start by finding a used trade book (something with a lot of images) and use this book as both material and inspiration. Learn strategies for working within a theme, what to do with unwanted text and images, ways to add and remove from an already bound object, and problem solving together.

Each session will include a slideshow of examples, demos (with space for questions and suggestions), group sharing, troubleshooting together, and time to work alone. Participants are encouraged (but not required) to work between sessions.

Level: Beginner. All skill levels are welcome. Previous experience with collage is helpful, but not required.
Certificate: 8 hours, Category C or D

Pricing

$196/participant (10% discount for MCBA members)

$98 for BIPOC/Financial scholarship (10% discount for MCBA members)

MCBA offers two scholarship types for workshops—Financial Hardship Scholarships and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) Scholarships—to honor equity and increase access and artistic opportunities for those who have historically been underrepresented in the book arts. For individuals to whom these scholarships do not apply, register at the Adult rate and, if you are able, consider making a donation when registering to support MCBA’s efforts to make scholarships available.
