A storage-folio book is a sculptural book structure made up of a series of envelope-style enclosures that feature two-dimensional ephemera.
The storage-folio book can sit open on a table and closes like a book for easy storage. It can be made with found and handmade envelopes to create an artist’s book or to store meaningful, two-dimensional ephemera.
In this in-person workshop, learn how to create this unique structure, beginning with making envelopes in a few styles with decorative or solid-color paper. Explore ways to decorate the envelopes based on what you plan to house in your storage-folio book or based on personal taste. Then, assemble the book, one folio at a time. Instruction will include information about accessible materials and tools needed to make this structure. Come away with a finished storage book and the skills needed to make more independently.

MCBA offers two scholarship types for workshops—Financial Hardship Scholarships and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) Scholarships—to honor equity and increase access and artistic opportunities for those who have historically been underrepresented in the book arts. For individuals to whom these scholarships do not apply, register at the Adult rate and, if you are able, consider making a donation when registering to support MCBA’s efforts to make scholarships available.
